Rust primer paint on a trailer

Hey bought a second hand trailer lots of surface rust but all metal still Sound started taking loose rust of with wire brush, could I prime over that or would the rust just bring the paint off,
My idea was to take the loose rust off use a wire wheel on my drill to take anything I missed, then prime it with Hammerite primer then paint.
What's your force.

Ditch the hammeright paint. If you want a good long lasting paint use MIO. Get any loose rust off and MIO will deal with the rest. It's what pillions etc are painted with I climb masts that are on the coast (very high tide one is in the water!) they have been there fifty years and still rust free

You can get a primer but I wouldn't worry it sticks to anything!

for that price another option would be jotun epoxy primer (approx £50 5ltr on ebay ) then some rustoleum /diy store enamel on top

dont use hammerite its very poor these days

Thanks for the replays seems bait pricey for some paint. I don't need that much could do with going to my local paint store and asking them if they do smaller size tins. Mio paint looks good to say you don't have to prime it.
