RWC resources

Good morning, after a 10 year welding/fabrication career I have now moved into a Quality/RWC role.
Really enjoying it, but finding theres not many resources about for the new RWC.

So if there are any RWC's about in here do you fancy imparting some knowledge on me?

It sounds like not just a welding inspector, more some one who determines what welding goes on at what
time in the process ?
1. Tack parts in fixture 12343455
2. lift parts using crane attachment a-53-d
3. Mount parts in positioner b-54-d for final welding.
4. Weld sequence as follows.

Is there a job description- that would be a good place to start- then make sure you are provided with what you need from there.
Is it planning work, certification to work completed, sustainability of some kind? Too much ambiguity in the word responsible to be clear.

I'm dealing with all the in house certification, conducting tests and sending them off to our local testing house, conducting weld surveilances.

Heavily caveated reply, based on your response, not the link, and not having worked in your position, but having been responsible for some stuff currently and in the past... your MAIN focus MUST be on record keeping.

Off the top of my head, make sure you know:
When anything is due for calibration.
When anything is past calibration/out of date.
When anyone coming on site to complete work has the required specification and qualifications
When/how many/what has to go for testing
Test results - ensuring that whoever does the testing is qualified. Make sure the responses are filed, and can be found for audit.
Insurance - check you're covered.
The company auditors - find out who they are, and what THEY want.
Processes and procedures - make sure they're completed and current.
Health and Safety - speaks for itself.

ISO 14731 looks to be the basic standard you should be working towards, but I'm not paying £60 to see what it says.... (Your company probably should..)

Pay - make sure you're being compensated for the extra work and stress this will involve, and it's not just 'an opportunity' for you!!!!

Thanks, Beanwood; your reply about sums up where I am at the moment.

I've automated calibration using SharePoint—over 1,500 items on the list, internal and external calibration. You put in when it was calibrated, and it counts down to the next calibration date. All catalogued and recallable, which was really useful in this year’s audit.

SharePoint doc library for the Welding Matrix, which has all welding certs; we got the nod from TUV that we are allowed to digitally sign them now too, so that's all automated with a daily email reminder for the upcoming six-monthly confirmations to do.

Local test house has just got UKAS certification; they are also our European RWC if ever needed.

On top of testing, so it's just the occasional new starter and retest now. The Weld Matrix gives me enough notice on retests too, so I don't get blindsided by 20 retests in one go.

Pay-wise, I've had training with the offer of ‘any other job-related training that I want’ and also a decent pay bump, with the offer of pay increases with yearly reviews if I'm progressing.
But I’ll be honest with you, this has opened doors that I don’t think I’d have had the opportunity to go through otherwise.
