Safmig Control Help

Hi all, I recently purchased an old school Safmig 320BL for my fabrication workshop. It's main use will be a bit of heavy welding here and there for big machinery to replace a miller bobcat I just sold (no need for an engine welder now I'm in a new shop and not out in the field).

My question is - does anyone have any experience with this machine. If you look at the attached photos it's got two connections for the earth lead (two different resistances), bottom right dial is wire feed, next dial up is voltage control, next dial up just has two positions A and B (no explanation as to their functions) and the 'On Off' switch has two settings. When in position 1 it runs as a mig should, when in position 2 it does nothing.

Does anybody know what the second position on the on off switch does, and also the A B switch. I'm assuming the A B switch may be a high and low voltage switch or something, like a course and fine adjustment.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hopefully the A/B switch turns out to be a electrode positive/negative function...

The A/B switch changes the voltage so that will give you double the voltage ranges when used with the 12 position voltage control switch. I'm not sure but the mains switch may switch between different voltage supplies.

Thanks for your help - much appreciated. It's a pretty big clunky old thing but for it's intended purpose it should do well. I will go right through it and do it all up - should look at adding connections to the leads to quickly switch between EP and EN as I have quite a bit of flux cored wire laying around for use with hard facing or high deposition applications.

I am guessing but the wiring diagram in the Pdf would be the same as my 320 ? I have a problem with mine, there seems to be two phases joined together and when i work the trigger it throws the 3 ph safety switch in my switch board . The feed works OK when I use the motor feed switch so it isn't a fee problem and the core ,hand peice etc is almost new.
