hi everone,

could someone recommend a sanding machine used to sand damaged paintwork prior to filling and then for initial sanding of the filler.
do i need a constand speed machine? what make and where from? it for infrequent work not everyday stuff.

You don't need a machine, don't put too much on in the first place and rub it down with 80 grit production paper on a rubber block then put another thin coat on to fill the scratches and rub with 240 down to 400 or 600 before priming. You can't get the contours right with a DA sander although they are fine for large flat areas or woodwork.

For blocking the filler you want the long yellow 3M block. When I bought the first one I couldn't believe how much better/quicker it was than anything I had previously used.
For wet and dry you want the rubber block, all rubber blocks are not equal the soft orange ones from brown brothers seemed the best, the hard black things my paint shop started to sell was like using half a brick wrapped in wetndry.
