My first attempt of a scan from a Revopoint 3D POP2. What a steep learning curve though, I am finding it very unintuitive and the software is not straightforward. First you scan and there is no help to tell you how to set the variables. Then you import that into another equally unfriendly piece of software, where the scan is "cleaned up" and can then be converted into a choice of formats, .obj, .ply or .stl. This was an .obj file that I attached to a baseboard in Design Spark Mechanical.
It seems that is is best with non reflective, mid tone surfaces so I told 'er indoors that I need a model. The response was along the lines of "go away in short jerky movements".

Mines still not left the factory yet and I'm a very early supporter of the kickstarter page.

Sucks would be an understatement.
But hopefully the pop2 will work better for my stuff than the pop did.

Well mine was a December order and FedEx sat on it for the last two weeks. Then I got a ransom demand for £77.37 which their online system wouldn't let me pay. I was told to ring their "payment line" with a credit card. That just told me to do it online. Eventually I paid by BACS and it arrived Wednesday.

I am not impressed so far, it seems impossible to scan anything successfully unless it is grey and matt. That is why the included bust is pale grey no doubt!

I tried a white mug covered in black script which looked OK initially, but multiple attempts resulted in a mug with three or more handles. This was on a black turntable, rotated slowly in front of the fixed scanner head.

I preordered mine day 1 of kickstarter (number in the #60's)

So still awaiting. Only nice thing is because got ender3 also got the free upgrade which does help soften the blow.

Dry shampoo/ talcum powder to matt the finish of most stuff is ment to help massively.

That's the revopoint pop1 3d scanner. (18month old model)

The new pop2 (evolution) has been released and is supposed to be quite a bit better.

They are also developing a revopoint mini which is ment for small part reverse engineering.

They are a relatively budget 3dscanner but people have been seeing great results with them if willing to spend the time and effort with them to learn/develop skill sets.

I got mine to try and help with mounting points and bracket making.

Both. Scan in Revoscan and pull it into Revstudio for meshing. Set as Features. It needed a lot of light to produce that.

I have the Pop 1 the software used to be a lot worse!

I found dry hair shampoo can work quite well to get the required Matt surface.

Both. Scan in Revoscan and pull it into Revstudio for meshing. Set as Features. It needed a lot of light to produce that.

Yep I did wonder hence why the pop2 has the option od the big led spot lights to help.

Seems like that putting into a camera "booth" can really help with detailed scans.

I have seen some epic detailed scans of reverse engineered suspension hubs for measurements for a trophy truck build.

It's one of those things, do I need one. Not really,

Do I want one. Yea just as a toy to play with but also help with future projects as hopefully getting into more research and development of some products.
That with accurate enough scans (without spending £30k on a creaform) then will be happy.

Got access to a larger 3d printer now for custom centre consoles, armrests and brackets.
