I was about to buy some more, but a number of the recent reviews say that it's just changed formula and now does not work.

I'm wondering if anyone here has recent experience with it?

I bought some about 3 months ago and unless it's changed since then, which I sure hope it has not it is fantastic stuff.

I use it neat in a spray bottle with a brush and boiling water to clean very greasy saw and car parts and it cuts through it very well. Its a yellow colour fluid. Now you mention this I may stop tomorrow and get a couple more bottles incase the stock changes as I'm nearly through my first 5L

I can't answer your question as I have never used it but I check the SDS with things like this, sometimes you are paying for almost nothing or they switch supplier and are selling a different product as may be the case here, sometimes the product can be identified and bought with the original branding cheaper. There was a time when no nonsense wood treatment was all light oil and solvent with no biocides, at least twice the price of buying the ingredients elsewhere, not that you would for treating wood.

This looks like the same product, it contains caustic soda so maybe not suitable for aluminium.

Not the degreaser, but I recently bought a general purpose cleaner from Screwfix and that is really poor. It's the most disappointing product I've ever had from them.

For a long time, Screwfix sold a really good and inexpensive paint which they called "Red Oxide Primer" which the SDS showed was a good quality zinc phosphate paint made by Johnstones. Buying my nth tin, though still called "Red Oxide Primer", the formulation had changed to a paint made abroad containing no corrosion inhibitor.

When this was discussed before about the change, I found that the original degreaser was being sold off in the bargain section & our local Screwfix had one 5 litre going cheap so I grabbed it quick. They only had the one else I would have got more, it is (was) brilliant stuff. RIP degreaser!

So you haven't tried the "new one" yet? Not really a comparison and take online reviews with a pinch of salt!

Looking through the recent neg comments on screfix it's clear 2 or 3 of them all came from the same person tyring to use it on their driveway. And someone else said the terrible new one is a yellow fluid. Sounds like the one I have and it is perfectly good degreaser and I have used a number of them over the years. For the price I think it's still the best out there. I will be picking up another 5L later as I'll be beside a screwfix at a MOT appointment

Hum, the old version Screwfix degreaser made an excellent paint stripper if you left it on too long for long enough.

I picked one up when I was in the UK last week, will go and give it a try… Like @JOEPRO I use it neat in a squirty bottle.

Yes it changed formula earlier this year, used to be phosphates based now it's caustic. I've not tried the new one yet, not keen to really being caustic. When I saw on here that it was being changed I got the last one of the old type in my local, which will last me a while yet.

If you are cleaning aluminium etc and don't want caustic this may be worth a try. I used to use it before I started using the No-Nonsense degreaser.

The old one would certainly make alloy go white. Not significantly but it would 100% do something to alloy.

I know this with certainty, as i used to have a tray of it for degreasing alloy frames, and, if i left the job in the tray for a "i forgot about this" time scale, it would be furry

It works well, I don't know what people are complaining about

Perhaps just in comparison to the old stuff it's not as good. The old stuff you could dilute and it was still effective.

I buy commercial kitchen degreaser from makro/bookers.
Marginally better imo than the Screwfix stuff (and my bottle of that is pre-covid, so probably the "old" stuff)

I got 5l of the new (yellow) stuff delivered today.

It's not quite as impressive as the old stuff, but it's still not bad at all.

Id probably not have noticed the difference unless id read the reviews.

I've been degreasing an engine block. Old stuff, I think, would have done it all, whilst new stuff left some small patches, but, overall it was fine. Still well worth using.

i use tfr watered down use it neat and it softens paint . paid 20 quid for a 5 gallon drum at autojumble
