Finished this a couple of days ago.
About three weeks from start to finish with other stuff going on alongside it.
Stands 2.5m tall, made from a mix of 1.6mm mild steel sheet and 10mm bar.
Got a bit tedious towards the end, having made a similar one a few years back.
Detail of the eye.
The eyes gave me a mega headache. When working in symetry I always always tack things together and check they look right. This time some idiot who could not be bothered to stand it up and look at it from both sides measured the eyes, all seemed fine, then did all the complex welding and fitted the outer ring. Then stood the sucker up either eye was fine but they did not match. Cue almost three hours of cutting one eye off and moving it about 30mm. Idiot.
What is annoying, the first version was going to auction with a 'well known auction house' I had two potential buyers for it but I had to say cant sell it due to the auction.
First couple were happy for me to make them a fresh one and paid a deposit.
Then the one at auction did not bloody sell, curses, that was supposed to pay for gliding gear.
Then the other potential customer came back this morning wanting another one with a few tweaks. So in a week or so I am back to chopping out tiny panels and sticking then together. Cant complain, it is great to be busy but I hate repeating work like this. Ho hum. Still glider is paid for, and it is better than being skint.
What is funny, wifey and I (me to a slightly lesser degree) are great believers in visualising what we want to happen. During my art week event we both set out minds that my seahorse would sell. Well I have sold two of them but not the original.
Crazy.
