Sealey Pressure Adjustment

Hi guys, we have just bought a Sealey compressor, it cuts out before reaching maximum pressure. I have read a few of the other posts on here but cannot see how to adjust the pressure? I have attached 2 photos showing the front and back of the controls, can anyone see what I have to adjust here?

Specifications: 2008 50Litre 3hp belt driven Sealey compressor 10bar

Remove the black cover from the pressure switch. There should be a spring with a nut or a screw at its centre. Turn this screw clockwise to increase the cut-off pressure.

Obviously take care, there's mains in there.

Cheers pal, I did that and managed to get the pressure up to what I needed.

The only problem is, the cut out switch keeps activating, so I have to reset the switch and restart the compressor several times before it reaches the required pressure, however this also prevents the compressor from restarting itself when the pressure drops.

I opened the lid on the box at the back that the cutout is mounted to, to find 2 cylindrical tubes and a few wires - no idea what I'm doing now.

Has it started cutting out since you adjusted the pressure switch?

Does it cut out when it's near to cut-off pressure?

If it cuts out you must set the red knob on the pressure switch to "off" to release pressure in the pipe between the tank & pump before resetting the motor.

Before I fiddled it would only reach 4bar, but it would cut out on the way up, so I had to reset the switch and start it again.

Now it eventually rises to just under 10bar, but still cuts out on the way up, and won't start up again when the pressure drops.

That "box" you have opened is the top of the motor and the "cylinders" are capacitors. No adjustments and only electric for the motor in there. Just put the lid back on without touching any live wires with the power on!!

Ha, yeah I make sure I switch off and unplug the compressor before turning a single screw!

My old man wants to get rid of it and get another but it looks to be in great condition apart from this one issue...

Capacitors can still be live with the power off.

Does it sound as though it's labouring before it cuts out?

No not at all, sound sweet as a nut! If this cutout switch didn't keep stopping it, I would almost think it was a brand new compressor.

Empty the tank of air then switch the compressor on let it get up to about 30psi and then switch it off by pushing down on the red button on the pressure switch. you should hear a hiss as the pressure in the pipe unloads and then stops. if it keeps on hissing there is a problem with the non return on the tank. if the hiss stops but the compressor wont re-start when you pull the red button up and the trip pops out on the side of the motor then you will probably have a fault on the electric motor. can you get better pics of the motor rating plate and the capacitors as well as how its wired up.

If I stop the compressor using the red button, it will start again when I pull it back up, so that is working fine no problem.

The issue is that the trip keeps cutting in to stop the compressor, but then it won't restart again automatically without me resetting the trip switch.

As Eil says, it's looking like the motor. I'm sure we had thread like this a while ago, someone from the Isle of Man? This was on a brand new compressor and he ended up getting replacement motor under warranty.

It could be an over-sensitive motor cutout.

have you tried using it on another plug
also are you using an extension lead mine used to struggle on a extension lead had to use a 16amp one run fine now
