SGS 50l Compressor

Just bought an SGS 50l compressor and have been testing it for leaks etc before I put it into use. I've never used a big compressor before so I am following the instruction book religiously. It says that after use to release all of the air from the tank, and if I'm reading it right to turn the pressure control valve all the way clockwise. I did this and expected it to dump everything in the tank but nothing happened. Don't want to get too heavy handed with it and break something. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong and hoping someone on here has the answer (read knows what they're doing as I obviously do not) T.I.A

Usually they have a drain tap at the lowest point of the tank (underneath), this will allow the air out and any water that has built up during operation.

Just checked the manual or their website and it looks like I've lost the power to read plain English. It says turn the valve anticlockwise so I was turning it the wrong way (embarrassing). I'll try it again later and see if I get the desired result. Thanks gents.

I've never vented all the air from my cheapo Lidl 25L one, am I killing it? Anyway, it seems to empty itself if left for a day or two anyway.....

I was worried about undoing the drain at that pressure. I'm guessing the safety valve is the red thing with the ring pull. Can I dump the air after each use with the safety valve? Sorry if I sound a bit thick, this is all new to me. I needed a compressor to run my Cut 50 (not used one of these before either).

The drain valve should not give you a full blast all of a sudden, it's a gradual thing from a gentle hiss to a good blast depending how fast or how far you open it.

I drained it recently, when I 'constructed' a place to store my trolley jack. Some brown water drained out, but iirc that's the 2nd time it's been done.

So, my expectation that if I leave it fully charged and find it with pressure when I come to use it again [could be days] is unrealistic? Like Mart63 I'm a novice and still experimenting with sand blasting etc

Thanks for all of your help gents. Now I need to pluck up the courage to connect it to my Cut 50. From what I've heard I'll need to tackle at least 1 internal air leak and more than likely 2 before I can actually cut anything. Oh the joys of cheap Chinese kit.

I've seen a couple of youtube videos where people have fixed internal leaks . In both they said it was to be expected on most Cut 50's. Lets hope I'm one of the few that get a good one. Not holding my breath though.

My pressure vanishes over about a week or so, suppose it manages to get past fittings eventually, especially on the cheapo sets, could probably improve but it's no big deal really.

My compressor setup also has a leak somewhere which I really must get around to finding. I suspect it's on the piping to the additional air receiver on the outside wall, as I don't hear any tell-tale hissing noises inside. Some soapy water will spot the problem easily enough though, it's just never been a priority for me yet.

dumb question, what is a cut 50..........tried to google it and got a 50/s style womans dress or suspect a plasma cutter.........hahaha....
