shades of lenses and auto helmets

hi anyone know how the green lenses are numbered .lighter to darker . weldings normaly around 100 amps also what recomendations for an auto darkening helmet ark welding use only .nowt 2 expensive but not cheap crap from market traders . thanks in advance

Lower the number=lighter shade,
Eg, shade 10ish for the 100amps you're using or say shade 12 for 200amps.

There's an ISO standard for welding filters which dictates the numbers. I think it goes up to shade 15, which is only any use for around 500A.

As for auto dark helmets, I find mine is lighter at shade 10 than a fixed glass shade 10 filter.

Most autodark helmets are shade 9 to 13. The charts are worth a look, but they are only a rough guide. You adjust the shade control so that it's comfortable to use. It only changes the amount of visible light anyway. IR and UV should always be totally filtered out.

As for which one, there's lots of advice on here. Some people get on well with the £25 ebay helmets.

Hm, ive had a few headshields as of late, currently working with one of these which is excellent.
