shop sign bracket

this is my first post on here. I recently knocked this bracket up to hang a sign for my mates shop which he is opening. Made out of a scrap piece of garage door reinforcement and an old bike rack. The bar is a bit overkill size wise but it was there ready to be used so i went with it. It was probably a bit thick for my little welder as well. I got used to the kit I have been using at college so it was a bit more of an effort.
Overall Im pretty pleased with it. Pretty sure it should last a hell of a long time.

I should imagine it's certainly strong enough for the weight of the sign, attached is a picture of one I made, the T shape wall bracket allows for lateral rigidity, wind can have a big effect on a sign bracket and the last thing you want is a pedestrian with the bracket implanted into their skull...the compen claim would be scary.

there is a pub down in barrow that has a huge sign that was (not been that way for 3 years) help up with 6mm blue rope as the bolts had fallen out of the wall and i got sent on my own by boss with a ladder to fix the sign with no gear! so the only thing i could do was lash it up and get a return trip with mate, van, scaffold etc but the brewery that ran the pub would not pay the maintenance company for the return call out etc so the job never happened

I have made many brackets and so have an interest in them and hell there are some dodgy one's up above our heads, have seen massive set up's held up with 2 screws in rawlplugs, other rusted through that much an anorexic sparrow would cause them to collapse.

I am amazed how people don't think of the liabilty they have if one falls.

I like your one cumbria steve. I'd like to knock something up like that next time. hopefully mine will be alright laterally as the bar is quite wide. I guess we'll find out if it falls off?

There's nothing clever about mine, they are just bought in scrolls but it's what the customers like, I do get the chance to do the odd 'special' now and again which is more enjoyable, I also forget to take photo's before sending them off to their new home.
