Shot blasting nozzle

Hi folks I've built a shot blaster out of a 47kg propane bottle the blaster works great but I'm eating through 3/8's hydraulic hose like no tomorow

I have no nozzle on it as I don't have one but I'm wanting to get one and maybe a better sized hose as 2 wire hydraulic hose is eaten away in about half an hour. I have plenty of air available, as the compressor under the floor of my van is 160cfm at 120psi

Use proper blast hose.

I've used 1/2" bore heater hose which isn't too bad - I had a load given.

At the moment I'm using 3/4" bore hose (another freebie) and it last surprisingly well. It's worn out to nearly 1" and it just keeps going.

I think I will as I built all the pipe work out of 3/4" steel pipe. Where do you get your nozzles/ valves I've seen some on eBay but I'd quite like maybe a 6 mm tungsten one as most of the blasting I have to do is large panels that won't fit in my electrolysis bath

Try Hodge Clemco for the larger nozzles.

6mm jet runs at about 80cfm min for a constant 90 psi . u deffo need the proper blast hose for it

That's handy to know bud I will set the regulator to 90psi.

Just spoke to hodge clemco the women didn't seem to know a lot about blasting just what the book says, she couldn't give me a rough idea how long the hose will last, anyone roughly give me a guess I'm using crushed glass 3mm and less. Tungsten nozzle is £75 at 6mm for anyone else that wants to know

Maybe the problem is the size of your hose 3/8-----which is not very big, the small dia is making the shot travel very fast, comparatively, so the faster the shot and the amount traveling, down the pipe is shot blasting your hose, if you use 3/4 or 1" the speed of the shot and air will slow considerably.
You will probably still end up with the same flow at the nozzle but the supply hose will last longer.

if your using a 6mm jet the blast hose wants to be 15 mm bore .

Right I thought I'd update this, I ordered the nozzle, holder, hose and it works a treat I had to make a couple of modifications to my blaster but it's working a treat now, still need another 3/4 ball valve so I don't have to keep turning off the air by the regulator. Well I had to remove the handle I had on it and extend a piece of 3/4" pipe to stop me blast hose bending straight at the valve. I need to weld on a new handle and a hose holder

just upgraded to 12mm clemco hose for my 6mm jet we'll see how that goes

Yeah I tried 1/2" hydraulic but it was to small and kept bursting every half hour, I'm on clemco 3/4" blast hose now and I've done a good 15 or more hours of blasting with it now

it will go verry well that is the proper size pipe for the 6mm jet any bigger and u loose velocity down the pipe .after u have done a lot u can even feel the diffrence and loss in a worn pipe

The actual pot itself was £82.19 in materials I had to buy, I have ample amounts of 3/4 galv pipe and I got 2 47kg propane tanks from a mate but I have about 15 of the next size down but I like the big pot as I can blast for a good while without refilling.

The hose was £6.10 a metre from hodge clemco
Nozzle holder was a tenner I think.
And I went for the tungsten nozzle in 6mm which was £75 but you can get boron ones or cheap ceramic ones. Hope that helps bud

Yeah you might be easier to buy the 20gallon one and if I was you depending on your compressor size I'd go with the bigger hose and nozzle
