shotblasting help needed

I'm looking to build a small blast room for doing smallish items, bits of landys etc, and i was thinking along a the lines of a 20gallon pot .
I have a 150ltr, 3hp, 13cfm or so compressor and was wondering if i coupled another the same spec, would i have enough to run a 6mm tip?

Any suggestions would be helpfull

i run one of mine with a 6mm jet it runs on a 90 cfm compresor at 90psi . u will be able to use a 3mm jet at 90psi with two 13cfm comps coupled together

Thanks brightspark, is it a slow process using a 3mm jet? could you give me a rough guide in time to paint strip a standard land rover rim with a 3mm jet?

i used to do car wheels and bike frames as a part time buisness . landy wheel;s are quite large and take a bit more time. if u use the 3mm jet u would need to use supafine grit. at full pressure it would probably take 15 to 20 mins to do one .

I use a 3hp in parallel with a 2hp compressor in a home-built blast room and they work a 3mm nozzle just fine.

The length of time depends on the paint and how many coats, forget about doing powder coated items.

I recently installed a dipping tank full of methylene chloride under a layer of water and stripping items first vastly reduces blasting time and hence costs.

You'll have to pay a lot of attention to ventilation, a small room soon fogs up with dust with J-Blast Supafine or glass grit. Don't consider using sand.

That looks the job. Can you tell me how well the dipping tank works with painted car parts, does it also react with rubber sealant between parts?

It works very well, I leave stuff to soak overnight if possible. Quite often the paint will fall off in sheets leaving bright metal behind, other paints just soften.

Using a stripper first means you can use a bigger nozzle with less pressure too.

Meth. chloride dissolves rubber (I found out the hard way!) and it will soften fibreglass too. It will also remove sealant and transfers.

I think it will attack polystyrene, but it's OK in plastic water tanks (ABS ??)

It's the basic ingredient in Nitromors.
