side vertical welding

Hey guys just a quick show of yeasterdays work im still learning but hey its all fun and I enjoy a challenge all painted and finishef today
What do u guys think ?

I did struggle on some welding in this position any pointers
And yes my phone rotates my photos I have no ideal whats wrong with it

With the gap between the two pieces, Id do that in two runs, with the first run, would move up almost in a straight line, only a little sideways movement, probably at about 110amps, or whatever you feel comfortable with, Then clean of and weld capping run with 120amps. When your welding the cap, try holding the arc at the sides and not hanging around in the middle so much, this will "wet" the sides of the bead in better, and the middle will take care of itself.
This will work if you are using an upside down U shape weave. You only want to move up each time roughly half the width of your molten pool too. You can see from the "V shape" ripples that your travel speed was a bit too fast, was you "wipping" the rod up and down, in and out of the puddle??

not bad but as said above i would have gone with root and cap.

the cap would ensure fusion at the edges and give an overall stronger weld, yours looks a bit fast, a bit jerky and in a few places a bit thin in parts, but if it is strong enough for the task then that is all that matters. I have definately produced worse welds that are still going strong 2 years later on digger buckets so on

As far as vertical up welding is concerned the tighter the arc you can hold the better, never any longer than the width of the rod's metal core though.
Perseverance is they key, and finding the sweet spot as far as amps vs arc length vs travel speed will fall into place soon enough

im still working on my travel speed whipping action ive been welding lots this week but eventually ill have to go back to assisting plumbers again so im just trying to find what works my v up is awlfull and im always trying to get tighter arcs tighter weaves ect. just gunna keep practicing. I got enough scrap :-D

and truth be told i would of liked to cap that just did not have the time i mig welded the rest of the floor and stuff

Your not making it easy for yourself whipping the rod back and forth, youd be better of weaving side to side around 2-3mm each side of central (if that makes sense, sorry if not) moving up and across in a shallow arch shape a little each time you travel from one side accross to the other pausing at the sides for a second to let the puddle catch you up and avoid undercut.
Kind of like a
Left...pause...right...pause....left .....pause
and so on as you progress up the joint. Keep your arc length the same as you move up, and only move up a little as you go across from one side to the other.
By whipping a 6013 rod up and down, you ar ok while you moving upwards, but when you come down again very hard to do without blowing slag into the pool and getting inclusions
