SIF Phantom headshield

After trying numerous headshields last week, i have opted to try one of these for a bit-

Anyone else used or use one of them?

Been using it a lot this week for some fairly heavy work.

Comfortable, good size, nice big lense...
Only downside so far is the cover lense is a bit fiddly to change.

Certainly the best of the three i have had in as many weeks.

Does it nod down properly/stay up?
Usually a sign of a good shield.

Looks good compared to my cheap ebay jobbie Karl, but I'm surprised that you don't have one of the really expensive all singing dancing helmets given this is your profession? I'm guessing your bosses are a bit tight fisted when it comes to buying equipment.

It doesn't jam up if you push it right the way up, and yup, comes down when you nod

Not sure what accessories are available for it.

I don't buy them, but if its not doing the job, i won't do mine.


Gav, I had an origo-tech for the last year or so, which was a replacement for an Eye-tech.
Okay for light stuff, but then running at high amps/pulse Mig theres a very noticeable difference in shade corner to corner. Even on the 13, the light was just too bright and becme irritating. Had another origo, barely any better staraight from the box.
I contacted ESAB aboutit, told me that its a common problem, but 'Angular Dependance Compensation' has improved recently..... i gather this is on the higher end masks only.

The other i tried was a supplier own brand.....Brit-Arc from Wellington Welding.
Now, as a light duty budget mask, i cannot fault it, lovely clear lense, but the shell was just too short, in some positions, it barely covered the line of my jaw bone when looking comfortably through the lense. No problem for bench welding of if you are wearing a hangman style mask.
Next time i want a new one for home, i will likely buy one of these without a second thought, at £40 inc VAT.

Both of these have an annoying plastic tab that holds it in the flipped up position, which takes a lot of nodding of a hand to help it past to come down.

Cheers Karl,I bought a cheap lid for home ,a flaming skull! ......
but i still like my fixed shade Kemppi Alfa at work ,don't go above 180amps on any process now,I'm not complaining
