Signed up weeks ago purely to thank members for one of the funniest discussion threads I have seen in a long while. "Worst tool you ever bought" made my day go very well. Aside from that nugget the site has often come up on my searches for matters of metal. This is a great place here for sure.

General machining of turned and milled parts/parts repair for myself and others and dipping my toe into sheet metal as I always have to travel and cajole others into anything folded or rolled. I have a Colchester Chippy, Ajax mill and a Kearns S-Type, the S-Type is living elsewhere right now but has to be moved from my friends in Surrey now or yesterday otherwise I will be short of one friend. Less said the better on that subject.
I have not owned any welding kit in years since it was stolen, I owned a portapak and some Murex gear. Never owned any modern electric gear, played with some and have a shopping list for when I flog my house.
You me and everyone here could have had any amount of Mig and Tig gear some years ago when Fermec closed their Trafford Park plant. I did not have house or workshop at the time and the man in charge of the disposal offered to sign anything off the site that I wanted.
I did find room at a friends for the contents of the metrology inspection lab including full range sets of Mitutoyo Digimatic Holtest mics, Digimatic "regular" mics, depth, height gauges etc. I paid nothing for any of it.
I put two inspection grade 24" surface plates in the load space of my car and the front was very light! Occasional visits to this site have been valuable when reading someone else's similar question to one I have. I think it is a great place.
I will put the members patience to the test when I come to invest in welding gear!
