Silent compressors

Hi, please forgive what might be a stupid question from a newbie. First I should say a little of the problem I have. I have a car I'll be restoring at some point in the future and a decent size garage to house it all in in comfort. The main problem is the garage is located under someone else's apartment, so keeping the noise down is the priority.
I would like a compressor to maybe do some light blasting on small parts such as throttle bodies and other small engine parts and the like. While I could go and get an £100 - £150 regular compressor to do the job, what is the cheapest ( credit crunch is biting hard on the car messing budget ) that will blast small items ? I must stress that this will be very lightly used and the budget is a big factor. So can anyone advise on what the cheapest silent compressors will power tool wise ?

You could go for the Clarke Shhh range, but the smallest only delivers about 1cfm and is well outside your budget. You'd need to get a bigger tank (search for "Propane" in the comprssors threads) to get any proper use out of it and it will takes ages to fill.

You could use a fridge compressor(s) if you like to mess around.

I would guess other types, such as screw compressor would be in the £1000 plus range.

Well the direct drive piston type is out then, have you room to build your own little compressor house which you could then take steps to sound proof.

i dunno if youve tried blasting before ...but the £100-150 jobbies are barley up to the task as ive found out

capable of blasting a jam jar lid thats about it...
