Silver line nibbler

Hi Folks

Just bought a silver line nibbler for £26.00 new
The die has lasted for 1m of 1mm mild steel material and about 300 mm of 1.2mm mild steel.
No problem with air. I have a 3hp 50 litre compressor.

The spec for the nibbler is 1.2mm max thickness

Is it just a cheap die or air tool.
I'm trying to find a tool to reduce down my sparky angle Grinding.

Any dies that might last a lot longer

Well at least it didn't explode and take off a limb or finger.
13.86 Is above the international average for effective use if a silverline branded tool.

I have some silverline grinding wheels that I'm saving for when I get the urge to commit suicide.

If straight cuts then I find a small TCT blade cutter (like small circular saw) from Aldi works great.

I have a Silverline 4.5" angle grinder. I have had it for 4 years, at least.

Never let me down.
Never broke.
Looks rugged.
It never gathers dust.
Never needs the gears greasing.
The disc removing tools have never bent or slipped.









Never bean used, still in the box, still under the bench.

In my experience, all the brands of air nibblers take the same consumable needle tips & anvils: Snap-On, Clarke, Chicago Pneumatic, Sealey, Universal Tool, Draper etc. even the lidl & Aldi specials.

You can get a replacement set of 5 from MachineMart, eBay, Sealey, etc. but make sure you get both anvils and needles in the kit!

I purchased a replacement set of 5 online about 3 years ago for my 2 nibblers and I am still on the first set in each... one a Snap-On nibbler and the other an ancient unknown brand one I bought S/H from a car boot over 30 years ago.

I cut up to 1.6mm (yes! 1.6mm/16 gauge) plain MS & galv sheet with mine; the trick is to have an air line filter-oiler in place.

Silverline polisher round the bike shop has been regularly used for at least 6 years now and still going well.

I use a jigsaw and a decent blade for that thickness sheet.

I don't routinely buy low quality tools preferring the higher end stuff but I'm using a Silverline power file for my resto, I wanted something cheap as I wasn't convinced I'd use it that much but it's probably the most used tool so far.
It's all the luck -of-the-draw, quality control is poor so lots of rubbish amongst the better gets through, at least you can get your money back if it breaks or your not happy.

I will a few spares and give it another go.

It was a roll of the dice between nibbler or Shears but the nibbler specs thicker sheet than the sheers
I did think when I bought it that if it was a bit naff I could always use it as a hammer (:

Haha yes.
I thought they were very cute at first

On the plus side I have took it apart blew it through. Replaced the grease around the gears.

It's working really well now and cutting lovely
Not sure what was making it stall buy happy now

The polisher is the best tool they have, don't know what went wrong or how it happened guess one specification sheet slipped through the net.

In a work environment the polisher is awful, They have all broken within a month and its been a variety of problems, the only reason we've had so many is they're that cheap they are bought as a disposable item.
