Great machine. Shame it's a two man job though; can you make it pedal operated?

I dont think it actually needs two people to run it. They were just slacking lol.

Try fitting side tables to it so that the big first splits dont fall off.

I though the guy in the honda jacket only has one arm for a while (lot in the machine?) then realised he was operating the lever

Would a foot pedal not be better? When the pedal was pressed the ram extended then when released it retracted. that way the operator has two hand free and it will automatically open in the case of an accident ( assuming the trapped personage cased the foot operation to cease )

HSE say log splitters should have two handed operation, mine is one handed, but your 2nd man in the video is doing a no hander

It is a one man operated machine just the second fella was helpin out. supose it wood b safer with one man operating it but.
Never thought of using a foot pedal that might b a good idea!

Like it, was gonna get my self a log splitting axe (instead of my small girls axe and a sledgehammer)

may build something like that instead!

Could a large bottle jack ( used as vertical splitter ) be used instead of the ram? Old joints are making using anything manual more difficult.

Yes but very slow & the ram return normally relies on the cars weight so you will need to add springs to pull it back in.

Hi i like the splitter, im thinking of building one myself, time permitting.
I have a old tipper ram and pump off a old transit tipper, do you think this would be up to the job? was going to start on it soon so i can get the logs seasoned for the winter
Also any chance of some more photos please

You can buy manual log splitters that are basically a very big bottle jack inside a frame

I bought one cheap on ebay a while back (berfore I got a powered splitter), it's very slow, but the advantage is you can use it in a small shed etc so you can split wood on a dark evening

The type run of the 12v battery will soon over heat running it to do logs.
