Sip 150

Hi there,I'm new to welding and I have picked my self up a sip migmate150.
It is in really good condition and only been used a couple of times by a friend.it is a gas welder only.i was using it today and it was working perfectly no troubles at all,then I stopped welding for a few minutes and then wen I went to start welding nothing!! I can hear the gas flowing through the torch,but there is no wire feed at all.and I can't hear any clicking and even if I switch the switches on the front panel I can't hear the inverters change over or anything.i have checked the blue torch trigger wire and that is connected at the torch and switch.im stumped as it was working and then now all I've got is the gas coming out and nothing else.please help as I'm gutted I only got it today.many thanks Andrew p.s the fan is on aswell like normal when switched on

After having a look through the website am I right in thinking that if the little transistor on the pcb has given up it won't power the relay which controls every thing but the fan? Many thanks Andrew

Welcome Andrew. Another possible cause might be the small Transformer on the pcb or the thermal cutout mounted to the main (large) transformer. It may have cutout but is refusing to cut back in. Do you have and know how to use a meter?

Ah right ok,I have basic multi meter skills but only on car electrics,can you please shed some light on The small transformer on the pcb board or a picture to help me identify it?i found the thermal cutout in the large transformer.so I touched the wires together to make the circuit complete(bypass) it if you like but still no wire feed or arch at the torch.i measured continuity from the torch the torch switch and that was ok.im stumped not sure where to go to be honest

I checked the voltage at the
Main on/off switch today and I was getting 237volts or there abouts.and then nothing coming out of the pcb board.

I have just connected a small car battery to the wire feeder motor
And it spins fine as freely.so it's not that.i think it's something on the pcb that is causing the problem.does any one know where I can get a new board for my
Welder

spares are available from sipuk.co.uk just click in spares section,
i've used them a couple of times for space heater parts,delivery was pretty quick too hope this helps?

I had a quick browse in there website before,is that not just the board on its own with no relays or resistors etc soldered in though?as the relay is sold separately below it and its nearly as dear just for the relay.or if some one could point me in the right direction as to where I can get a new transformer from and or relay that would be great.i have tried searching this website but I'm not yet up to speed with it.thanks

I can't help with the electronic side of things but you should be careful with the cost of any parts you require.

Sometimes it can end up costing more than the machine is worth, the SIP although some users are getting away with them, is not recognised as one of the better machines to own.

It may be worth watching out for another machine you could use as a donor for parts, they quite often go on Ebay in scruffy but working condition for quite low prices, sometimes as little as £40.
