SIP Any Good

hi guys

ive started a thread regarding compressor advice

though id ask about this one

its a

SIP belt drive 150 lt tank
3 hp low draw motor
air displacement 13 cfm max free air delivery 9.1 cfm
would this be a good one for general air tools & spray painting a VW T4 bonnet.
thanks for any advice

SIP is hobby quality so will have limited duty cycle, if that's not an issue then it should be fine. It will have warranty and spares backup which is a good thing.

cheers mate for your reply,,its sort of getting confusing,,i would of thought a compressor should run any air tool,if thats what they advertising to do i cant get my head around the fact you have to have a monster of a compressor for it to do this or iam missing something,,,it wont be running 8 hrs a day
EG: like when i worked in garages but i do expect it to buzz decent size nuts/ bolts & spray a panel of say 5 ft by 4 ft for example

Duty cycle is a different issue to air delivery. Think of it like this, your car might have a top speed of say 130 MPH for the sake of argument, but if you drove it continuously at that top speed it wouldn't last more than a few hours. Same with compressor, it might be rated at 9.1 CFM at 150 PSI, but unless it's a heavy duty industrial unit designed for continuous operation it won't last very long if run at that output continuously. Most hobby compressors have a specified duty cycle, for example, 10 mins on 20 mins off, although it could be specified differently.
This is so the thermal capacity of the pump and motor aren't exceeded which would cause overheating and premature failure.
Industrial compressors are over rated so that at the recommended operating pressure and air flow they are running well under their maximum, this allows them to run continuously without a problem.
