hi all just been given a sip airstream compressor model number as3hp/100 with no plug will this work off a 13 amp plug or need a 16 amp supply

Is the rating plate on the motor ?, that will state the running amps. I have a AS3/150 in the shed which I have just put new bearings and a capacitor on the motor, and that runs off a three pin plug, even though it states 15.5A on the motor. The previous owner had it for 17 yrs and said it ran off a three pin plug all that time. I haven't had the time to run it through its paces yet though. You could fit a 13 amp plug on it and try it.

The worst it can do is blow the fuse in the plug, give it a try.
3hp is 2.2kw and is technically within a 13amp circuit at 9amp you may find depending on the starter type that it blows the fuses all the time. I tend to run everything in that range on 16amp or 32amp plugs. You can pull a 16amp socket of your existing socket ring main without a problem and then the RCD will take the load rather than a standard 13amp fuse.
My 3kw workshop heater runs on 13amp fine. But the start load is tiny.

I used to have a direct drive SIP compressor with a 2.2KW motor - it was fine on a 13A socket most of the year but when the weather was very cold (no heating in my workshop) it would tend to blow the plug fuse on first start up. Once I could get it up and running it was fine. In the end I got fed up with it and fitted a 16A socket.
