Ok at work the sip that not used a lot at all is not looking very well

Needs new torch and the speed control dial has been snaped off

Cost of a new quality torch is 60 quid and the board sorry I have not got a pic forgot the variable resister I'm hoping can be replaced as I'm sure a new board will make the unit scrap

Just do a eurotorch conversion on it that'll be cheaper

Unless it identifies as a SIP as its 2024 anything is possible

if i do euro conversion means putting the gas valve in the mechine and rewire cost of a euro kit and a euro torch with cables etc a new torch with 2 m cables for the welder 3 leads to connect and the gas pipe 20 mins and done for 60 sounds a lot cheaper way to me

sorry did not realy look at it that hard looked like a sip

but to be fair to me the wire feed is a plastic carp unit so prob from the same factory

SIP and Sealey get alot of stick on this forum at times. And not justified IMO.

There are thousands of SIP and Sealey welders around the country lying in garages and working just fine. I'd dare say they are likely more reliable than more expensive brands like Esab of late....

My SIP migmate turbo worked well enough for 25 years. Wasn't until I read it on here that I knew they were crap

Which is not to say that the GYS I bought isn't a whole lot easier to use and allows me to produce much better welds.

i have the newer version of the supermig 180. its perfectly reliable. dad has a 220, used in a industrial setting. works hard, 10 years old, also works fine. nothing wrong with sealey welders. better than clarke by a long way, not as smooth and nice as a decent inverter, but far less likely to break.

that's a fair comment but, with a little bit of time and love, I expect it would scrub up quite well

As long as the standard torch meets your requirements then easier to go like for like. I didn't know how good the clarke torch was on our 150 until I started trying to get a larger euro torch into the same spaces. I also really liked the half pull to get the gas up to the torch before the full pull started the wire feed. It really was very short though so I haven't missed that

the speed control will just be a standard part and wouldn't have to be a sealey replacement just need to look at the markings and see what it needs

My first Mig in 1985 was an SIP Ideal 130 , I had problems initially which was down to my ignorance, it worked well, almost daily for nearly 15 years before any problems.

I have a Sealey mig, I've owned it for over 25 years and it's been used and abused and still going strong. I did a euro-torch conversion about 4/5 years ago which was a good improvement but other than that it's as I bought it.
