Hi guys.
Thought I would start a thread about my slip roller refurbishing. I started the strip down. And came to a halt...the right side of the roller is threaded to take the turning handle...its started to turn and then stuck....if you look closely at the two pictures you can just see the thread...i have even put it back together and jamed the teeth..still will not budge...i don't want to give it to much stick in case I brake the teeth.

Looks like someone else has had a good go before and given up, lots of slip-jaw plier marks on that handle shaft

It's right hand thread as it starts to come out about 5mm then stops...

Yes definitely someone had a go...will have a study this morning and come up with a solution...

If it is just a seized thread could you possibly flatten two opposite surfaces of the cylindrical shaft so that it could be turned with a wrench, or hit with a slogging spanner to get it past the point of seizure?

Seized was the wrong word I used..it starts to turn and starts to thread out then comes to a sudden stop. I think it was were the grub screw had been drilled..

Sussed it out. A broken grub screw . If you look at picture you can just see the top. Drill and retap is the order of the day.

Yes, definitely drill her out. I snapped an easy out the other day. Fortunately it was just on a vice jaw, so I have the other screw.

Yer...its a tough little grub. I no some of them grub screw are 14.9 rated. Am hitting it with cobalt bits and plenty of cutting fluid. So far am 1mm in lol. Will replace it with an m10 high tensile grub screw.

Well...got the grub screw drilled out...the thread came out half way. The internal threads on the roller are cross threaded !!!! That's another roller....

Thread could be repaired...drill it and helicoil it, worth a go and cheaper than another roller? Stick a metric grub screw in

It was going well..had the hole drilled out. Not to size but enough to remove the old broken grub screw... but unfortunately the main internal roller threads are shot... could take the roller to a machine shop and get it drilled and coiled as you say...

The shafts on the rollers are huge. A good 25mm plus.

ahh not the grub screw threads...gotcha now...yeah that might be quite hard to clamp and drill....

Yes. That big handle that's attached to that shaft that threads up one end of the main roller...think I will need a new roller machined up and handle shaft

you couldn't turn the shaft down and then put a brass sleeve over which could then have a new screw thread turned could you, loctite it on?

The shaft is cross threaded up the roller...well and truly stuck solid... It's a new roller ECT.

Yes. And had a 5ft lump of steel tube with myself hanging of the end...its well and truly stuck solid.

Cut the handle off the thread and then you only have to make a new handle
