have a problem with my 2 cylinder 240v compressor,always starts ok,then after 20 or so seconds,will slow down,then just before the pressure switch cuts in,will speed up for the last 10 seconds,the belts are reasonably tight,and otherwise performs fine. Thanks.

Sounds unusual that it’s ok at the beginning/end and slows down in the middle? Does it run ok with belts off? Can you bypass the pressure switch as a quick test and run it direct from mains to discount that??
could be the run cap but the fact it speeds up at the end sounds odd

My compressor used to do exactly the same thing and it turned out the belts were slack, but I see you have already checked that.
Might be worth tightening them a bit more to confirm it's not the issue.
It's strange, you would expect the belts to slip under full load but that's not what happened with mine.
Have you an AC clamp meter?
It would be worth checking the draw to the motor over the cycle and check the RPM as well, if you can.
How big a drop in speed is it?

Dose it do the same consistently? Is it the same when you first start it on a morning as it is after running for a while?

Do you have a tachometer? Would be easy to check if the belts are slipping.
