Easiest way is a crucible made from a cut-down disposable MIG gas bottle, hole dug in ground. surround crucible with charcoal. blow air from a shop vac (or hair drier) into the charcoal.
The whole machine is cool, it's the home casting bit that makes it special. Something like that would have given an 'O' Level grade A in Metalwork back in the 80's. A little porosity in the castings but nowt that matters for the use, maybe the Chinese have the right approach!
I use a metal bucket as an outer. ceramic chimney pipe (might be drain pipe) as an inner, insulated with a mix of orange (yorkshire) clay out of the garden + perlite. piece of scaffolding pipe through the bottom (horizontally) to feed air in.
crucible can be a baked bean tin (single use) to proper graphite crucible off ebay (20+ uses).
runs off charcoal, then WVO when hot.
Takes about 2 hours to make - lots of fun!
