I recenty bought a second hand , but almost new, Machine Mart bead blast cabinet. I have a complete car to restore and has lost of small ally bits which need cleaning back.
First off I have no dust extraction, so started off with the small filter on the back fitted. With aluminium oxide it took just a few mins to block and force the pressure ( set at 60psi ) to start squeezing the gaunlets and venting through the lid taking the dust with it, which meant constant cleaning of the twist on filter and me wearing a dust mask.
Second was that even with 23kg of media in the bottom, the pick up point still ran 'dry' which meant havng to stop , do the filter and then either tip the cabinet on its side to force the media to the left side or do it by hand.
Third is the dust generated and the replacement screens provided. I replaced one screen and stuck it down , but it still lets in dust between the screen which resulted in having to nip out and get some clear tape to seal all 4 sides fully.
All in all, not a great first times use and one which made me thing why didn't I just pay someone to do it for me. Being a full car restoration, I'm keen to do as much as I can to firstly keep the costs down, and second, because I want to say i did as much of it as possible.
So any suggestions on how to improve this little cabinet ? It seems sensible to cut the steel media pick up tube so that it collects in the middle of the cabinet , rather than right up against one side.
Who hooking up an old Hover do the trick with the dust ? Right now is just looks like the dust extraction filter who get blocked just as fast if not quicker.
Thanks
If it al sounds a bit too muchof a moan, not so. I was at least quite happy with the nicely cleaned parts, if not with the aggro getting there.
