small compressor with da sander on paint

Hi, I ,m thinking of preping an MGA for a paint job. I've a small compressor
270 L/min 9.5 CFM
I want to take it back to bare metal maybe chemical strip plus sanding. Is it worth buying a DA sander for the compressor for this job. If so what type. any feedback would be much appriciated

If its a small tank,it will be rubbish and slow with a DA sander,or it will be running non stop,which will soon knacker it sanding a car down,my best advice is buy an electric DA sander,I was always with an air DA sander/6" disc but was converted when I saw them being used,brilliant.You can pick one up for under £50.

I agree, only don't buy a cheapie, buy a decent make, with the hook and loop system, air tools like sanders, power files and die grinders are pretty useless on normal single phase compressors.

thats strange ive run a da . belt sander and die grinders off my home made 14cfm single phase compressor for over 30 years no problem quality make powertools not crap ones

that look like the wing needs to come off there are two panels there bolted with a rubber gasket/strip between them you won't get rid of the rust just by cleaning the paint off

Have you thought about hiring an industrial pressure washer and wet blasting the paint off? much quicker and then you can sand down the metal at an easier level

I have to disagree when it comes to price and supposed quality of D/A's
I've been doing bodywork for about 30 years,23 of them professionally so I've been thru countless sanders and I can tell you the so called premium makes are no better than the cheap ones for general sanding ( it's different when you're using them with an interface pad prior to buffing as you need one with a smaller orbit as these are more expensive )

I have had 2 Clarke 30 quidders for years and they are still going strong.

What I would say is they need a lot of air so it will be putting a lot of strain on your compressor,you'll have to stop often to let the pressure build up.

I did once buy a D/A that only needed 4cfm to run,I can't recall where I bought or if it's still possible to buy one,sorry

Have a look on ebay. theres often a few good deals for electric DAs. I'm a convert now using one of these after only ever using air.
