snap on / cebora mig 130

Hello all,

i have purchased a faulty snap on mig welder (cheap) and im wondering on what my best option is to get it up and running again.

everything looks pretty good except the torch. the plastic housing is missing and the tip looks all melted away. hopefully i will get a piccy or 2 on here soon.

is there something i can do to test the rest of the unit before i go spending money on a new torch? just to confirm its not all a bag of poop.

would my best option to be buy a new oem torch, or convert to euro torch?
from what i see its not a huge job and the cost between the 2 options isnt much

I've converted mine to a eurotorch. It's a bit involved, but worth it and less than a new cebora torch. You will need to connect the thin trigger wire to the main welder feed. If the brass block is still intact, short the wee screw to the housing.
The wirefeed should work and there should be a voltage between the brass block and the earth feed, measurable via a multimeter and you should also hear the contactor engaging.

dont suppose you remember where you connected up your gas solenoid and what voltage one you got?

Don't forget that you'll need a gas solenoid valve, as gas control was built into the torch handle. I suggest you check the coil voltage of the contactor, get a suitable valve and connect in parallel with the contactor coil wiring.

Just checked the circuit diagram - 240V is coil voltage (no step down transformer fitted in these machines)

It's 240V and it all came as a kit form ebay, torch, connector and valve.
the gas solenoid is connected across the contactor if I remember correctly. I also put a switch in for gas purge and isolation. There are photos and a thread if you look under my profile.
The plastic mounting for the wirefeed needed a bit of fettling to hold the brass neck of the connector and you need to cut a larger hole to fit it too. Apart from that its a bit of wiring and soldering.

I'm sure i did a wiring diagram. Not sure where it is at the moment but will post when i find it.

right then, checked with a multimeter and get various output voltages when i alter the switches. contactor kicks in and the feed motor turns (and varies speed with adjuster). as far as i can tell so far it looks healthy.

anyone got the service manual? or tips on cleaning out the gearbox / motor drive as it dont sound too amazing

yup, that's the jobbie. I got the 4m version, which is a bit to long and would have got the 3m version in hindsight.

is that the tip been broken off? i take its im just better off with the euro torch conversion than sorting this out.

looking at the second thread they used a 20v gas valve, which i guess is just connected to the output. i dont think thats the greatest idea bearing in mind the voltage would change depending on setting. better off with the 240v one as you have used.

well you know how much the conversion is gonna be. plus that will work with proper gas regulators/bottles and the spares are mb15 standard
original Swan necks and blocks are available but iiirc about 50 quid. I've seen the whole torches for about 80 quid.

the wiring should be a doddle for you if you are in electronics.

the soloenoid wies go to the contacter and the trigger wires are one to the euro connector and the other to the trigger wire.

I've also replaced the earth lead with a car jumper lead and a decent 200A croc clip and added a gas purge switch. this was a toggle switch from maplins. cost a few pence and some wire. lets me isolate the gas for wire filling and purging gas if needed.
