Snap-on Compressor

Hello people.

I've a Snap-on single phase Compressor and it seems to have stopped working.

Never done anything with compressors before so haven't a clue.....

Swapped the 13A fuse and still nothing.

What's common to go on these things?

Any ideas will be appreciated!!!

does it not have a motor reset switch

describe what happened to cause it to stop working!

I came to turn it on yesterday and nothing happened.

It has a motor reset switch, pressing it does nothing.

I have removed the cover and found something called 'weber unimat t13-211' Think this is the reset switch. It looks burnt? :|

the reset switch should only have 2 wires join them together and try it again

Tried that, still nothing.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the box like thing that the mains power runs into?

Its got the master on/off switch on top.

It's the pressure switch, it turns the motor off when the pre-set pressure is attained.

The switch on top turns the compressor off and in the other position hands control over to the pressure switch itself.

Whether you switch off manually or automatically the pressure switch opens a valve to release the air trapped inside the pipe from the pump to the tank.

If you switch off at the plug whilst it's running you must then switch off at the pressure switch to release the pressure, otherwise when you switch the plug back on the motor may stall and get damaged.

Seems to be a motor problem!

An electrician friend came over and tested some bits with his kit.

He says that power is getting to the motor, it just keeps blowing fuses (13amp plug) every time it's switched on.

The motor is made by: Brook Crompton Parkinson motors

Any more ideas?

Does the motor run at all before blowing the fuse ?

could be the starter capacitor, if it goes it will blow the fuse
