Snap on Pro 160 wire bunching

I have just bought a snap on 160 welder second hand, all seems well but i went to set the tensioner and the wire does start bunching between the motor and the entrance to the torch liner, like this:

Where the wire enters the liner it kind of jumps up and down and it runs through. Iv had a quick look and i cant see anything in the entrance. Heres a short video showing the wire jumping up and down (This is clear for 10 seconds onwards)



Does anyone have any idea how i can fix this issue?

check the liner and tip or maybe replace it and move it as close to the roller as possible if the gap between liner and roller is too big it can cause this

Give the groove on the roller a VERY good clean (wire brush?) That speed looks about 10 time to fast! with just 2 rollers you will expect to see some distortion (from where wire is wraped on reel) and so the movement of the wire.

To me it looks as if there is something missing where the wire enters the brass guide. Could be the liner is to short or a guide is missing (brass tube with tapered end). Normally you want the liner to almost touch the feed rollers and the bore of the liner matched to the wire you are using. Check and replace the liner correctly and then check the swan neck. New tip as well. Set the pressure on the feed rollers so that they will slip if the wire snags. Check by pinching the wire as it leaves the tip with a gloved hand being carefull not to let the wire touch the earth. It bunches then reduce the pressure. Too little pressure and the wire wont feed through the liner.

Missing liner error - the bit you can see is the liner collet and the liner should continue toward the feed rollers to support the wire all the way to the torch. Correctly fit a new one and your problem will be solved.

Thanks for getting back to me. Im glad you have worked out the issue, i dont suppose anyone knows where i can get a new liner? Iv had a quick search online but i can only find liners for a snap on 130 and cant find anything for a 160.

Have you tried a PM to Weldequip? (top of page) it will probably be a generic liner that fits a few makes/models.

Get a 3Metre liner to suit any Binzel equivalent MB15 mig torch. You need the blue plastic 0.6-0.8mm steel liner. Cut off the brass end piece that you do not need. Remove torch and inlet collet. Feed new liner as far as it will go (feed in bare section of liner to torch end), then fit collet back over the end (You may need to strip 1" of the plastic cover off to allow it to fit). Then trim liner so that 1/2" (ish) sticks out the end and by trial and error, inset the torch end back into the feed block and trim again until the liner sits as close as possible to the rollers without fouling them.
