Snap on Pro mig torch query

Can someone give me a little advice pls.

I bought Pro mig 170 from ebay and it needs a little work to get it up and running.

The immediate issue is the torch trigger which has been replaced with a flip switch, that's now broken too - not surprisingly.

So the first issue is, should I replace the whole torch and lead - probably. I doubt I can get a replacement trigger mech, unless any one out there knows better.

I've enclosed a photo of the plug end, can anyone tell me if this is a Euro torch fitting, I've looked a various pics on the internet and it looks very similar, I also notice that it doesn't have the gas switch in the handle - maybe someone has already upgraded the machine with Euro torch and gas solenoid.

So I just need to know if I need the whole replacement Euro Torch with socket and plug or whether I can simply just buy the lead and torch.

Astro Al had some for sale on here, not sure if they've all gone or not but worth asking.

Got another query for you Wozzaaah the wise Or anyone else out there who might be able to shed some light on this.

Astro Al sent me a couple of Parweld torches, well chuffed with em BTW and thanks for the heads up.

They have fixed plug pins in them which are a slightly heavier gauge than the female end inserts in my euro socket. I tried swapping them over with the pins from my old torch, but the size of the aperture in the Parweld plug body was also larger. I then tried swapping the whole plug over but this was also not viable. (you can see the smaller pins in the pic on one of my previous posts)

I have done a search for replacement pins, but couldn't find anything.
So the question is, what do I do, replace the Euro socket for one with larger apertures, can I get the aperture inserts for it or can I actually get smaller pins which will fit my Parweld torch.

Any pointers would be appreciated, thanks guys.

That's a bit odd, I was under the impression ALL euro torches were interchangeable, that was the whole point of them.
A new socket is about £35 and should be easy enough to replace if that's the only solution.
I don't recall this issue ever coming up on here so can't really offer any more advice I'm afraid.
Do you have access to another machine you could try the torches on?

Something funny going on there - eurotorch connections are eurotorch connections - there's only the one standard. Could you post a photo of the Parweld connector and the connector on the machine to help us understand what is going on.

are the torch and the machine the same current (or close any way) i wonder is the bigger torches have bigger contacts

They're identical across the range MK, MB15, 25, 36 definitely are as I've used all 3 on both my machines, that's the strange thing.

I've seen some with sprung male connectors on torch so they don't actually enter sockets on weldset just push against opening.

Thank you all for your help , here are the pics that illustrate my problem.

You can see that the Parweld is stepped (which I guess is standard) and that the torch that came with my snapon is continuous. The diameter of the recess into which the pins are set is larger on the Parweld than the Snapon and so I can't interchange the pins.
On the 'Euro socket' on my welder, there are inserts which look like they could be removable, but I doubt that I can buy these separately.

I'm guessing that I should just buy a new socket, but if anyone has any ideas???

Only just seen this, Did you actually try the parweld, or just assumed it wouldn't fit, the pins in a parweld euroconnector and many others are spring loaded and as robotstar says just push against the end of the female side of the connector. it gives a more reliable connection than the older thin pins that rely on side contact in the socket,

Yes I assumed that the pins were too large, I did try to screw it in there, but didn't want to force it.

Of course I just tried again and it slipped in there neatly.

I took a couple of Al's other torches: one of the pins on one torch was bent and it snapped when I tried to straighten it. Now it's entirely feasible that somewhere out there you can buy replacement pin assemblies but I figured, what's the point of owning a lathe if you don't use it? So I turned up a couple of new pins... which was quite entertaining as it turned out. The pins are 2mm diameter with a 1.5mm hole up the centre for the wire to fit into!
