Snap On Spares & Euro Torch

Hi,

I've bought a Snap On Promig Duo 150, does anyone do spares apart from the snap on man? Does anyone know who made these machines, I know some of the snap on ones are made by cebora?

I forgot to get a picture of the torch itself but as its a bit tired and only has quite a short lead I'm tempted to convert it to a euro torch. Has anyone done this to one of these? Is it quite easy? Would a 4m torch be ok on this or would it be better to stick to 3m?

I can't see any reason why you couldn't convert it to a euro torch Sam, all the parts are readily available. You may or may not need to fit a gas solenoid, it depends if your torch has a built-in gas valve or not. Easy enough to tell, just pop the handle apart and have a look, it's the brass block in this pic

The conversion isn't cheap though you're looking at £100 ish for the kit and a torch .
I'd stick with a 3m torch unless you really need the extra, your return lead won't be 4m so unless you change that too you'll have spare torch lead coiled up on the floor.

That model has a seperate gas solenoid valve inside the set, so a Euro-Torch conversion is more straight forward. Personally, I wouldn't go to the trouble & expense, just service the existing torch & it will run OK.

Unfortunatley I havent had any luck finding torch spares.

I was thinking of geting a euro torch like this:

and removing the euro connector then hard wiring it into the welder to save the cost of a conversion kit? Any thoughts on this? I would have thought it was a case of soldering/crimping a ring terminal on the live wire, joining the two trigger wires and using a push fitting on the gas pipe?

I can't think of any reason why you couldn't do that with a bit of fettling, after all, mechanically and electrically it is basically the same as the one that's on there.
If you do the mod and it works I reckon you'll be one of the most popular members for a while .

They don't seem to have much in stock and their product descriptions are sparse to say the least. Most of their stuff doesn't even say what brand it is. Maybe they do carry more but don't show it all on the website. Worth a look in there if it's not far from you.
