Snapped injector - welding a nut/bar

Alright guys,

So I have a snapped injector. My plan was to tack a nut on to the top, get it moving and then maybe add some threaded bar and pull the sucker out.

I’m 100% novice. Having trouble getting it to stick. Suggestions/tips etc. Much appreciated.

More power is needed if the weld isn't sticking. Some pre-heat with some gas can also help.
If you can get the injector glowing, and let the heat soak down it for a while, it will also help loosen it.

However on that engine, if we couldn't get them to move, we used to get an injector removal guy in, and they can take a lot of force. I think his limit was just over 12tonne, as experience taught him that's when things started snapping, and if it didn't move after being left for a while, he'd walk away from the job as there was nothing else he could do.

A lot of weld around the top of that injector will help free it up. I am a fan of the slide hammer approach, by the time you have welded a 5/8 unf nut on top of it you will have put enough heat into it to aid removal.

Very good for putting chamfers on things - much better than aiding removal of well stuck stuff.

Cheers. I was thinking about trying this. 23mm would be a good fit. Just need to get it to move. Left or right and then you know it’s coming out.

I used a slide hammer on and off for several days. I think it fractured it potentially before I applied a pulling tool which then snapped it. The slide hammer got the other one out so was gutted. I’m hoping heat helps me here. Would you be sanding off in between?

Yeah this one is pretty stuck.

I’m not sure my mechanical skills stretch to this. Strip yes….rebuild not sure….

Have you soaked it in 50/50 acetone and ATF for a couple of days ? Reapplying every 12 hours ?
