Snowmen

I've been going to the men's shed for 6 months, most of my time spent repairing things but I've finally made something for myself!

There are several different woods in each of these, beech, ash, oak, hazel, holly & bamboo, all from storm felled trees. Just to do some painting on the buttons & some varnish & he'll be out on the street!

Here are some of the things the other guys have made during the year.

We also made a Santas grotto from recycled pallet timber for the local chamber of commerce & it was used last weekend at the Christmas festival. We got £400 for making the grotto plus we had a stand at the festival promoting the mens shed and selling some of our crafts, that raised over £700!

The money is always needed though. We're trying to set up a dust extraction system costing nearly £500 & we've just bought a table saw for £500!

Well done. I have just come out in a cold sweat. When my kids were at primary school, i always got the job of making snowmen, reindeer or something else for the Christmas sale of work. I did well over fifty of the b things each December. Glad the kids have moved from primary!

I've been making snowmen too. This one is sat on my desk at work and made of Pine and Laburnum. Most are all hardwood and end up as raffle prizes at various churches or charities.

The Pine was a bit of a challenge as it's an old roof beam that my dad reckoned I couldn't get a nice finish on. The lump of laburnum was a chunk with a load of splits so for the purposes of the experiment and since it wasn't going to be given away....

It is primarily a wood shed, can't really do any hot work due to the fire risk. We had a fireman in doing fire warden training & he nearly had a canary when he saw the place with so much flammable material.
