Socket stopped...

Hello.. In my house the welding machine,a new inverter, receives electrical energy from a SUKO socket,but cables inside wall are thin and suitable for other purposes such us tv,fridge etc... yesterday i was welding with a 3,25 mm rod at 120 A and after 7th electrode machine stopped working,but it wasn't its first time stopping,and in the past has done it many times but next day was ok, but this time socket is not working. So i want to ask... What happened,socket destroyed or cables inside wall damaged? And should i do?

Fuses & cutouts in the consumer unit would be my first guess.

Best solution would be to get an electrician to install a suitable circuit.

From my limited experience of French wiring using Schuko sockets, they are rated at up to 16A, so wired properly and with a suitable fuse or breaker, they should be easily capable of running an inverter.

However, it would need suitable cable in good condition from the distribution board.

I suggest that you get this checked by an electrician and make sure it's all wired properly. Just putting in a 16A breaker or fuse could overload the cables and cause a fire.

If this is an old house the wiring could be completely unsuitable for running heavy loads like welders and in a poor condition anyway.

hello.. i live in Greece so i believe european standrds are the same,at least i suppose that. The house got build before 10 years. I am thinking about calling the electrician to connect a socket and board with 4mm cables but it's a little messy to change the cables inside walls!

You have a belief that the cables are intended for light duty, TV, fridge etc and have been overloaded.

You don't give the impression of having enough electrical knowledge to tackle this yourself with confidence.

If the cable has been damaged, it's dangerous and could cause a fire or electrocution.

I don't think that you have any choice but to call an electrician, explain what's happened and have him sort it out.

If you need to ask on this one it's time to get someone that knows what they are doing

best socket will be the washing machines socket,its independent for sure but thehouse its not too old & should have more sockets that work from a seperate fuse for those sockets electricians use 3*2.5 straight to the main board and a 16A fuse it will be ok for 140A
