depends on if your doing it yourself and what gear u have. sodas 25 quid a bag and doesnt go far and can only be used once . it wont remove wheel coatings if its getting painted j blast superfine would be best and give a good key without damage

I have all the gear, just need to get a vibrating mechanism on the pot. I have been told by an abrasives supplier that if used in a cabinet you can collect and use 6-7 times. I have seen many video's on youtube and other people have suggested that it would take of the coatings on alloy wheels.

Also if used would primer adhere to it ready for painting?

it will take coating of eventualy i cant see it being used more than once as its allready quite fine and would need sieving out after its 1st use. but if u think it will do the job give it a go. its only time and money experementing with it personaly i wouldnt bother with it .use supafine

Turn your pressure down. Soda is really only for delicate items where distortion, through heat and pressure may be a problem. As for reuse the guy it pulling your leg

But I was under the impression that the soda exploded on impack,

Grate for low pressure and good removal, BAD as it cant be re-used.

If it removes the coating, it also abrades the surface beneath. Any medium will do that, to some degree.

A friend of mine does Soda-Blasting and I've used it loads of times on engines etc, as far as I recall it cannot be reused as it does indeed fragment on impact.

Very precise form of blasting though, not to mention it doesn't damage any seals etc.

I've used re-cycled Supafine and glass grit without pitting ally wheels.

If i use soda i will need a vibrating mechanism on my blast pot or otherwise the soda will clog up. That what i have been told.

I see. I've built a vibrating mechanism for a sieve, I used a tumble drier motor with a small weight attached to the shaft with a Jubilee clip.

I need to make one for my own blast pot because I use very fine grit sometimes and it doesn't fall to the bottom properly. I was thinking along the lines of using a car electric radiator fan with one of the blades cut short. This would work off 12v as I'm not all that keen of having mains voltages in my blastroom.

You can get compressed air operated vibrators for getting grit to unclog. That way no need for any power other than is already at the blast pot in the form of compressed air. An example here:

I don't have any spare air, but I do have 12 volts in the blastroom and a few Metro radiator fans kicking about!

That device would be brilliant on site though.
