Solid Wire VS Flux-cored wire.

Hello.

I did some welding years ago with solid wire but I am new to Flux-cored welding wire.
I want to know what is the Amperage range for 0.8mm Flux-cored wire?

What is the lowest Amp Flux-cored works well with?

Anyone used 0.8mm Flux wire with low amp setting normally used with 0.6mm solid wire?

I Think there are no hard and fast rules with flux-cored it's a bit ...what gives you the results with the machine you are using and what you are welding.I had a play with some flux-cored with the 0.9mm free roll that came with the welder and I found it unsatisfactory to use.I got some passible-ish welds on some thin 24 gauge steel on high-ish amps and 6-7 wire feed moving fast with a nearly upright torch okay for a repair but not a pleasure to use ... jeff...

used it on 0.8 m/s sheet no probs. My machine does not show amps so dunno, set it, test it on scrap, do it is how I do it.

I have used 0.8mm gasless in the past and got average results. I found it was best when tacking up a farm gate outside.

But do remember to switch polarity of your set when using gasless. It does make a difference I found.

Reading around, often I found that Flux cored is more finnicky about tip to work distance
than solid wire, and that is better keep something like 15mm of said distance.
Is it true? (Note: I know very little on mig- mag- flux)

Someone told me that keeping the gas shroud on the torch while using flux cored improves things, true or false ?

I found it so, don't ask me why.

Perhaps the shroud helps to retain some of the shielding gases released from the flux?
