some candle holers

First real attempt to work with scrolls but made two candle holders. its fair to say i struggle to make thinks when i dont have drawing in front of me. but thats what im use to. here goes though....

and i had some small butterflies sitting so using 2.5 welding rods tacked them on. girl lked them so im in good books for a few hours haha

candle sticks are looking good mate. Where do you get the butterfly bits from, wouldnt mide a dozen or so of them for tha garden?

Could any one be able to help with whats the best way to paint these? I would prefer to use a sprey can as ill not get brush strokes but what othrr peoples thoughts?

I'd see about having them powder coated.
I get bits and pieces done now and then, to be honest, it probably works out cheaper than paint.

Plus you don't have to sand anything back (if it's already painted as they blast it prior to coating.)

Rebuilding an old BSA at the moment and had taken it to an auto-jumble to try some wheel in the frame.

The frame's been half stripped (as in one whole side has been sanded, but the other is still painted. The bloke was saying something about "when you get it painted..."

"No, no, no I'm not getting it painted."

"Why not?"

"Well someone's gone to the trouble of sanding all that paint off - if I go and get it repainted, then they've wasted all that time haven't they?"

Cue perplexed looks.

i thought of powder coating but if i was to try sell these local or to cover cost of making them for people would it be worth while? Would i not be looking at £10 + for powder coating? Cheers

Got price from powder coaters... £12-£15. So wouldnt be worth while unless they would sell for £30.

I use plastikote aerosols for small items like that, the parts in this thread are painted with it, a couple of quid a can from a local discount store, and dries in a few minutes.

That's the problem with this type of thing I've seen various garden items, hanging basket brackets, etc that look simple enough to make but you couldn't even buy the raw materials for the price they sell for.

Thats looks a good finish. may try look out for that.. got some halfrauds aerosol tonight to try the ones in my house out with.

They work better if the jobs warm, make a benchtop spray booth out of a cardboard box, and blow a fan heater in it (with the job in it), turn the heater off whilst painting, then turn it back on to dry it off, the semi-gloss finishes look nice on metalwork, I always think full gloss looks a bit plasticy, and matt looks like its unfinished.
