Now thats what i call a steady hand,some really stunning stuff there,question i'd like to ask is where would you get steel bowls like that over here and at what cost?

What size BFH do you think she uses to tuck-shrink those 1/2 spheres? I doubt that the Frost Shrinker-Stretcher would cope.

They are amazing, I would love to be able to do that, I guess it is simply a matter of practice to get that good with the plasma cutter.

Metal spinners, I've bought them from here http://www.purdie.co.uk/
largest I have used were 48" dia in 5mm stainless, be sure to ask for hemispheres and not dished ends, and be seated when you get the price,

If anyone does get a price from Purdie would they please share it on here, as I would be interested purely from curiosity. I do not propose to copy that other artists idea, but there are a lot of possible projects that could be kicked off with a large hemisphere.

If they are that expensive, you would have to be fairly brave or confident before taking a plasma to it in an artistic experiment !

That kind of free hand plasma cutting is not as difficult as it looks, thing is to plan what you have to do, draw it on clearly and take it out in sections and take your time. Work sat down and make a conscious effort to relax.
Expensive if it goes wrong, BUT you can of course weld up any cockups.

You could use the 300mm ones to make outside lights with maybe some sort of sealed light like a bulkhead light.....

Lovely work, and thanks for that link chunko, I fancy using spheres for something. Not a firebowl and I'm not even sure what yet anyway, but I'm sure it'll come to me!

Spheres?
Balls to you and me.
I use them for loads of things, eyes, feet on furniture, links in large pieces of work.
A few examples.

Eyes and knees

Ends of sections, linky bits and feet.

Feet and joiny things.
I buy a couple of batches a year as they are so cheap.
New balls please.

I was thinking of the big balls! I have some stove type ideas lined up for them, but the small ones do look dead useful, as your work shows. I shall have to investigate further, now who has a fag packet, I can't draw on roly baccy packets!

Hi all.....in case anyone is still interested in a price for these spheres...I contacted Purdie 7 days ago through their website enquiry form and asked for a price guide for 27" steel hemispheres.....obviously, they either are too busy, or have too many sales to bother to reply! This isn't the first time I seem to have been ignored by UK companies.....I must say, I get better response and respect from Chinese companies....sad isn't it!
