Some SpeedTwinPulse-XT Videos

I tried to upload some videos a while pack to show the new TwinPulse-XT process on Stainless Steel, but the size of the videos exceeded the amount allowable by the forum.

Today I was messing around with some settings and shot two new videos but this time shared them with Vimeo.

Hope you can see them.

One is T-Fillet in the Flat Position and the other in the Vertical position. Both 6mm Stainless Steel, 1.0mm 316 Lsi wire and 98/2 Ar-Co2 gas.

Now I know this method of sharing videos I'll share some more next week for other applications not specifically Lorch related if your interested.

Hellish impressive finish there Matt. What's the numbers on the torch signify (3.5 / 5.5)?

They will be to do with the overall "power" being used from the machine. Because it's synergic you can view this as either material thickness, wirefeed speed or amperage. I can't remember whether it was set on wire feed rate in meters/min or material thickness in mm. It will be one of them anyway.

It was a bit of a novelty being able to adjust the set from the torch when we got the first Lorch - wouldn't live without it now, especially dealing with varying gaps on end plates, gusset plates etc.

I've had a play with the I torch on my tig tonight. Can be pretty useful altering the current from the torch.

Is the finish the same on an outside corner vertical up?
You are using 1.0mm 316 wire!. What is the result with 1.2mm. Does the 1.0mm give a better result.
I have a 8mm 316 S/S job coming up and have been told that it is very difficult to get the result 'you' have with solid wire, and that I should be using flux cored for the vertical ups. This seems to be not the case with what you are doing. I have tried S/S on the new toy in the down hand position but still don't get the very clean finish you have. I would be very curious of the settings that you are using for that. From the sound the duty cycle is low and the background current also, it's like you are laying down tack over tack to simplify.

Good morning welderpaul.
I am hearing you. Had the new toy out on site yesterday, toy on the ground and me in the bilge of a boat. I had set up a few jobs on the machine for alli 1 tacking 2 vertical up 6mm 3 down hand. It is very easy to tack things in place, weld the vertical up and then weld the 20mm doubler plate to the hull, all setting and thickness controls from the torch. You do pay a premium for this, however it does make life easier.

Now if I can only know how to use it better

Hi Henry.

For the thickness I was welding I prefer 1.0mm for Stainless anything from around 1.0-12mm my personal preference is a 1.0mm wire but you can still get great results with a 1.2mm dia.

The settings for TwinPulse are very subjective. There are no hard and fast rules, they have a wide scope for adjustment in order to tailor make a suitable setting the particular joint type, material thickness, material type and welders own personal preference. The key to retaining a nice colour on Stainless steel is keeping the overall heat input as low as is practically allowed. So in this instance I had a very high peak but for a very short time.

Do you find that customers who have those torches experience a lot of damage to them?

Obviously the replacement cost of damaged powermaster is much more compared to a non-powermaster torch but the principle holds true that if your treat the torch like a hammer and throw it about, it will become damaged just like any other but if you look after it it will last. It's not any less robust just because it's a powermaster provided you use it properly.

Power master torches shouldn't need to be banged about to rid splatter because on pulse there is barely any splatter anyway :clapping:

Tis true that Pulse is a very low spatter process but a lot of the damage on torches either comes from mis-use such as pure abuse like throwing it around or pulling the entire weight of the machine about via the torch lead bit like a dog lead and also using a torch way past its amperage rating or duty cycle are common causes
