MrsG is having a birthday towards the end of the month, can't say how old but it's an anniversary usually associated with diamonds

Did not start taking pictures very early on, so pictures start a little way in to the project.



Obviously a '3D' heart, half my usual plates, half bits of stuff off the floor
The hole on the left hand side is there to take a large (80mm) glass 'diamond' originally a paperweight.
But first I have to retain it somehow.







This one will be cleaned up as much as I can, to get the surface rust off, as it's going indoors if she likes it! The last pic hints at this. I have also tried heating the 'hinged jewel retaining claw®' in order to give it some colour ... not a great success so far.
I do have plans to introduce more colour, but I need to make a back for it first. More on that later

Bit more progress this morning. Did do more this afternoon, but forgot to take my phone out to the garage for pictures so they'll have to wait until tomorrow.

12" across by 10" top to bottom.

Still have to work out a stand.

Bit of colour courtesy of some foam and red 'velvet' material.



Still need to work out a stand. Was thinking I could attach a rod to the back to sink into a piece of wood, or stone? Only issue is I have neither wood nor stone that suits
Can you buy ready made plinths .... *disappears off for a google*

Okay, so I had a thought early this morning. Remembered that somewhere in my scrap bin there was a disc of steel salvaged from somewhere. All I had to do was find it.
Now I can lose things after 5 minutes so finding something that I've had for years (and a house move) was never going to be quick.

Anyway right at the bottom of the bin I found it, and it was duly tacked to the backplate at a slight angle.

Nice simple means of support I think??



I also lined the recess where the 'jewel' sits with tin foil in order to remove the red coming through it and thus improve it's sparkle.



Think I'm done now.

This heart is outstanding! Steampunk with style :-)

And has given me inspiration to make a "thing" to mount a Swarovski crystal heart I bought for the Mrs some years back.

Well today is her Birthday ...
She says she likes it ...

But I get the impression she likes the Celestron SkyMaster 25 x 70 Binoculars and tripod I got her a lot more ...

She put it back in the box I made for it, and sat down to read a book about maps oh well
