I picked this compressor up with a view to replacing my noisy direct-drive and under-powered unit. It was an estate sale and sold "as-seen" but looking at the info plate it's not that old (2017/18) and the previous owner was a utility company.

Firstly, the electrics need attention. I'm assuming there was an unresolved problem as the covers are off (and lost). There is a missing air filter, drain valve and plug/dip stick. The unloader valve / starter (thing with pressure gauge) may not be complete.

If the motor proves faulty I may already have spare. I would like to check the wiring is correct on the Clarke motor but there's no schematic, which I assume was under the now missing cover. Does anyone have a link or photo they can share? Failing that, I should be able to figure it out with a multi-meter.

The large pulley wheel looks very new, perhaps unused. Maybe the machine took a hit and was scrapped.

I don't think it should take much work to get it back in good order.

Next, I want to replace the junction/capacitor box that sits on top of the motor. I can find lots of boxes on AliExpress but none will fit. I need 70mm rather than 60mm as shown.

What have I done now?! All of the shops will have the unloader valve assembly in stock. looks like someone has given the capacitor housing and wiring a good going over. As @RWD3M has already mentioned, give Dick or Mick a bell in tech. They tell you what you need. phone parts if they are available. Which they should be, I sold one the other day

Unloader valve removed. On very tight and I guess I'm the first person to remove it. I imagine the crack went unnoticed.

I had inordinate trouble finding a capacitor box for restoring my compressor last year. In the end, I discovered a local motor repair place in a shed off a lane which was an Aladdin's cave: spools of wire for rewinding; motors of all sizes littering the floor; tools and machines with knobs and big dials on in hammered paint; a bearded man in a dirty boiler suit etc. The office has racks of capacitors and all manner of appurtanences vital to motor operation. I explained my predicament and they were able to supply me with a fine cast iron box I could mount on the old motor I had. I really enjoy finding something perfect through human contact in this age where the Internet often promises much but actually just leads us down an algorithmically shaped path.

If you have such a local outfit then I'm certain they'll have a box in their scrap or 'just in case' pile. 'Before' and 'After' attached.

Nice. I've already decided I will fit a plate to the motor and mount a standard box on top.

My motor had a plate on, so I guess some previous owner had broken the cover and hence the capacitors were cable-tied on to the plate. I merely had to screw the new box on to the mounting hole in the motor body once I'd got it.
