"Spatter?" Inside Shroud

I'm getting what I would describe as spatter build up inside the shroud. It detaches easily enough using a wire brush but I would prefer for it not to be there by possibly changing my welding parameters. Any suggestions more than welcome.

anti-spatter spray..couple of squirts up the shroud and it dont stick..try keeping the steel bright before welding as this reduces a big chunk of it

what are you welding. cars any any change ? due to the dirty steel on cars you always get it and if using pure Co2 it creates more

I just poke it out with a screwdriver now and again. I found tip dip does work but stinks as it burns off.

Thanks guys. I'm welding some painted steel tubes and clean plate and seem to get it whatever. I had wondered about using anti-spatter but it sounds as though the spatter could be the norm. Appreciate your prompt help.

Keep an eye on it as it can easily build up and short the shroud to the tip.

just make sure everything is spotless and that will cut it down

Someone mentioned the spray cooking oil ? I tap the gun against the job or vice as i stop welding shakes some out it is a reflex action after ** years

Thanks guys. It sounds like it is fairly normal and there are ways to mitigate but essentially it's not my technique that needs polishing - at least not on this subject.

Get some mig pliers and just scrape it out from time to time, if the welders set up properly you should only be getting loose spatter, blobs melted to the shroud or tip is an indication of either poor set up, or poor technique.

Our counterparts across the pond seem to use their version called "Pam" of spray cooking oil quite a lot as an anti-spatter agent.
