I have a Snap-on mig 160 I inherited from my late father in-law and although its a great machine it is missing the wire speed control knob.
My question is does anyone on here have such an item or point me in the right direction to get a replacement ?
I tried my local snap-on rep with no success unless I wanted to buy a new machine.

Any help greatly appreciated.

you are in the right place for knobs...... welcome, a decent picture of and dia. of your shaft would be a good help when comparing knobs,

Measure the diameter of the shaft and the flat spot.
E bay will have something suitable.

I've made them for old radios out of oven hardening polymer modelling clay, Das or Fimo or similar.

measure your shaft as you have lost your knob!

The shaft on what the know screws is still there.

inside the machine is a variable potentiometer on a circuit board which would take a small external spline shaft which then pokes through the front of the machine to which the knob attaches but both are mia

The bit sticking out of the machine at the moment is a bit of whittled down chopstick so i'm able to adjust the speed to a fashion but its a bit hit and miss.

Right that's the shaft, they used to have a flat spot on it.

They come in two types, when you have the shaft diameter.

A push fit. OR a screw and clutch arrangement.

Knobs are standard 1/4 inch, either straight knurl (fine spline if you like) with a slot in the shaft, or smooth round with a flat. You have one or the other.
Maybe if you had taken a better picture you'd have had an answer by now. Just sayin...

Apologies, well some, the same comment applies to your poor pic.
Sounds like you need a shaft AND a knob? Hmmm, that's a bit difficult without seeing it, need a pic of the potentiometer, from inside the machine, as well as a closup of the front with the chopstic removed.

Its a rebadged Cebora autostar, you wont have any grief ordering spares from Cebora.

If it's got a stick stuck in it, the potentiometer is probably knackered.

Just check out the value of the pot and replace that and get a knob to match.
