spot welder help

Hello I was given a spot welder which works on a normal plug in garage.

The welder is 230v I believe

It doesn't have a table on to show how long/what thickness so tried 1+1 mm. Now my question is, it is making spot welds that I can't brake apart, but all it does is buzzes while doing so.... I thought it would of sparked too? Am I leaving the tips together long enough? About 5 seconds?

Not sparking is a good sign, sparks are wasted energy!, you may be able to see the metal under the tips glow as it welds. The test for a good weld is to pull the 2 pieces apart (may need a chisel) and the weld should tear a hole in one of the pieces, known as "pulling a slug".

Great! Thanks a lot! My first ever spot welder you see. So much nicer to have a spot welder now instead of plug welding with a mig!

Will try the test for good weld a little later.
