Spot Welder Please

Can anyone reccomend a half-decent spot welder? I've been looking at the Clarke ones. Are they any good? And is worth paying the extra hundred or so quid for one with an automatic timer?

The basic model, CSW6T, has a manual timer control & the more expensive CSW13T has "fuzzy Logic" control; you basically just punch in the material thickness & the machine does the rest...takes the guess work out of it.
The 13T is also capable of welding 2+2mm compared to the 6T's 1+1mm capacity

Do the Clarke ones work OK off a domestic power supply?

And on some parts of my car, it looks like 3 sheets of 0.8mm are spot welded together. Would a DIY spot welder be able to recreate this?

You'd need a Spotty spot welder for that.

Also, what does the 1+1 and 2+2 I see in the descriptions mean?

1+1 means one millimetre plate plus another one millimetre plate capacity.

I'm sorry i shouldnt have tried a joke that only regular Forum readers would have got. Here is the link to the thread i was reffering to where "spotty spot weldering" is mentioned.

1+1 or 2+2 means it will spot weld 2 bits of metal sheet that are 1mm+1mm or 2mm+2mm

I used to use a Spot Welder when doing Mini refurbs some years ago but found it only any good for welding ' new to new ' if I tried welding ' new to old ' no matter how clean the old was it was a dead loss much prefer to create ' spot welds ' using plug welds with the MIG.

So, can a 2+2 be used to weld 1mm sheets to each other (by turning the power down)? Or do you need to get the appropriate one for the material?

Sorry, I know that probably is a dumb quetion, but as I've never handled one, I'm in the dark somewhat.
