Spray booth help

hi I'm new to the site and am in the process of building a spray booth at home for painting bike parts. I've made a start and have the frame work structure up just not yet complete. It measures just over 2 metres wide, just over 1.9 metres deep and 2 metres high. I'm now thinking this could be a bit on the small size but space is tight. I really need to know the best way to set up my extraction, I'm thinking a box halfway up one side with filters mounted at the front of it with an extraction fan mounted in the top. Any help would be great.

Extract as low as possible to pull the overspray away and feed filtered air in from above.

Ok that's a great help thanks. I was wondering about intake filters and am thinking of having them the opposite side to the extraction unit up high. What size would be best for this size booth?

Bigger filters will give less turbulent air flow and last longer, size depends on the amount of air your moving. You can get proper filters on ebay now.

Yeah I've seen the intake filters on eBay. I mean for the size of the booth im not sure I'm going to be movin that much air? This is what I'm unsure about and want to get right.

the air volume is governed by your fans, your not going to want a howling gale, I must admit I don't have any figures on optimum airflow in a booth, it's 20 years since I last worked on one!

I suggest you fit dampers in the inlet and exhaust ducting that way you can fine tune the airflow.

To prevent muck being drawn in the booths are well sealed and normally have 2 fans one driving extract and the other on the inlet, the dampers would be set to keep slightly negative pressure in the booth to prevent the paint fumes escaping into the building.

Thanks for these links they are very useful. I have now sorted out an extraction fan but I'm still a bit confused with the inlet side of things. Is it best to just have an inlet style filter up high in one corner on its own or does it need to be fitted with a fan behind it to push air in? Or will this cause too much of a draft?
