Hi all,
I want to spray a few panels of my '79 Spitfire. I may well want to go on to do a little more painting in the future too.
I am however a little confused about the types of paints available and the neccessary safety gear I need for each. My understanding so far is that there are 2 or 3 types of paint suitable for car spraying:
2 pack - contains lots of nasties. I would definately require an air fed mask etc.
water based - contains less nasties. Can I get away with a good respirator with replacement filter cartriges?
Then there's cellulose. Is this the same as water based or something else? And how nasty is it?
Also are there water based, non nasty versions of primer, base and clear coats? I have heard that the clear coat contains the same nasties as 2 pack. Is that the case?
Ideally I want to avoid using an air fed mask as my compressor wouldn't cope with that and the gun at the same time.
Any help from you knowledgeable chaps would be highly appreciated!
Steve
