As exciting as the title, I need to source a couple of springs and eBay is letting me down.
The actual purpose is for an old wing mirror (the kind you can bash into and they'll just spring back into place - think 80's Ford) so it needs to be well tensioned otherwise it'll flap all over the place.
Rough dimensions are 7mm diameter, 70mm length, wire thickness I'm not sure of but ultimately I'll probably just go for the thickest I can get at that size. Ideally needs hooked ends, but worst case if its a loop I'll chop it, or if it doesn't have any ends I'll just shape them up.
eBay has bugger all for this kind of dimension (filtering on UK only - I don't really want to wait a month for pure chineseum springs) and the few places I've randomly found, but not heard of, have close-ish specs but want ridiculous amounts for a single spring. Maybe I'm being tight, but paying over a fiver for such a small spring seems excessive to me!?
So a) Am I being too tight and £5+ for a 70mm x 7mm piece of curled metal is the going rate in the modern world? and b) Anyone have any suggestions where they are a bit more affordable without resulting in ending up with something thats going to snap or lose tension immediately?
